Beware of Small Innovations

Beware of small innovations — for small innovations grow until they become large. So it has been with every innovation introduced into this Ummah: it began as something small, resembling the truth, and the one who entered it was deceived. Then he could not leave it — and it grew until it became a religion he was upon. Look — may Allah have mercy on you — at everyone whose speech you hear in your time in particular. Do not be hasty, and do not enter into anything until you ask and look: 'Did any of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ speak of it, or any of the scholars?' If you find any narration from them about it, hold tightly to it — do not exceed it for anything; do not prefer anything over it.
