This is a common misconception. The vast majority of Muslims are not Arabs. In fact, Arab Muslims make up only about 20% of the global Muslim population. The countries with the largest Muslim populations are Indonesia, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh—none of which are Arab countries. Islam is a universal religion sent for all of mankind, not for a specific race or ethnicity.

Shaykh Ibn Baz, like all scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah, clarified that there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, or a non-Arab over an Arab, except through piety (taqwa). This principle is established directly in the Qur

Evidence

Qur'an

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted. (Surah al-Hujurat, 49:13)

Hadith

O people, verily your Lord is One and your father is one. There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab, nor for a white man over a black man, nor for a black man over a white man, except in piety (taqwa). (Narrated by Ahmad, 22978; classed as saheeh by al-Albani)

Key Takeaway

The belief that all Muslims are or should be Arabs is a form of ignorant falsehood (bid'ah); the vast majority of Muslims are not Arabs, and superiority in Islam is by piety alone.
