Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 April 2026
1. Information We Collect
SunnahAnswers is committed to protecting your privacy. We collect only what is necessary to deliver a personalised learning experience:
- Account data: When you create an account, we store your email address, display name, and optional profile information (gender, birth year, nationality, languages).
- Usage data: Reading progress, bookmarks, quiz results, prayer & fasting logs, and reading streaks are stored to track your journey and personalise recommendations.
- Analytics: We use Vercel Speed Insights for page performance metrics and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for anonymised, aggregate visitor statistics (page views, traffic sources, device type). IP addresses are anonymised by Google and we do not collect personally identifiable information through analytics.
- Local storage: Reading progress, bookmarks, streaks, theme, and tracker data are stored locally in your browser. This data stays on your device unless you sign in (in which case it syncs to our database).
- Cookies: GA4 sets first-party cookies (`_ga`, `_ga_*`) to distinguish unique visitors. We do not use third-party advertising or remarketing trackers.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your data is used solely to:
- Provide and personalise your learning dashboard
- Sync your reading progress, bookmarks, and achievements across devices
- Send you newsletters (only if you subscribe — you can unsubscribe anytime)
- Improve site performance and content
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Do Not Sell My Information
We respect your right to privacy. By default, the "Do Not Sell My Information" preference is enabled for all users. You can manage this setting at any time from your Profile page. We will never sell your personal data to third parties under any circumstances.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase: Secure authentication and database storage with row-level security policies protecting your data.
- Vercel: Hosting and speed insights (anonymised performance data).
- Google Analytics 4: Anonymised visitor statistics. Loaded asynchronously after page interaction to avoid blocking performance. You can opt out via browser extensions or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- External APIs: Quran and Hadith data are largely served from our own database. Some hadith collections fetch from public Islamic text APIs — no user data is sent to these services.
5. Data Security
Your account data is protected with industry-standard encryption. All database access is governed by row-level security policies, meaning only you can access your own data. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
You can request account deletion at any time from your Profile page. Upon deletion request, your account and all associated data (reading progress, bookmarks, quiz history, prayer logs) will be permanently removed within 30 days. You may contact us to cancel the deletion within that period.
7. Children's Privacy
SunnahAnswers is an educational resource suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will promptly remove it.
8. Newsletter
We offer an optional newsletter with weekly reminders and new content updates. Subscribing is entirely voluntary and you can unsubscribe at any time. We will never share your email address with third parties.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
10. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy or your data, please reach out via our contact page.
