Is it permissible to use toothpaste while fasting?

Majmu' Fatawa wa Rasa'il al-Uthaymeen, vol. 19, p. 357

It is better for the fasting person to avoid toothpaste during the day because of its strong taste which may reach the throat. If he uses it, he must take care not to swallow anything; if nothing reaches the stomach, his fast is valid. Better is to use it before fajr or after iftar.
