What Rasoolullah Would Eat with Bread

“Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘What an excellent condiment vinegar is'!”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ عَسْكَرٍ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالا‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلالٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، قَالَ‏:‏ نِعْمَ الإِدَامُ الْخَلُّ، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، فِي حَدِيثِهِ‏:‏ نِعْمَ الإِدَامُ أَوِ الأُدْمُ الْخَلُّ‏.‏

An-Nu'man ibn Bashir said::

“Do you not have what you want in the way of food and drink? I have seen your Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and the poor-quality dates that he finds are what fills his stomach."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ، يَقُولُ‏:‏ أَلَسْتُمْ فِي طَعَامٍ وَشَرَابٍ مَا شِئِتُمْ‏؟‏ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ نَبِيَّكُمْ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَمَا يَجِدُ مِنَ الدَّقَلِ مَا يَمْلأُ بَطْنَهُ‏.‏

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْخُزَاعِيُّ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ‏:‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏:‏ نِعْمَ الإِدَامُ‏:‏ الْخَلُّ‏.‏

Zahdam al-Jarmi said::

"We were in the presence of Abu Musa al- Ash'ari when he was brought some chicken meat. A man among the people thereupon turned away, so he asked him: 'What is the matter?' He replied: 'I saw it eating something putrid, so I swore that I would not eat it.' He said: 'Draw near, for I have seen Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) eating the meat of chickens'!”

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ، عَنْ زَهْدَمٍ الْجَرْمِيِّ، قَالَ‏:‏ كُنَّا عِنْدَ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ، فَأُتِيَ بِلَحْمِ دَجَاجٍ فَتَنَحَّى رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ، فَقَالَ‏:‏ مَا لَكَ‏؟‏ فَقَالَ‏:‏ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهَا تَأْكُلُ شَيْئًا فَحَلَفْتُ أَنْ لا آكُلَهَا‏.‏

Ibrahim ibn 'Umar ibn Safina, on the authority of his father reported that his grandfather said::

"I ate together with Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) the meat of a bustard.”

حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الأَعْرَجُ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ سَفِينَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ‏:‏ أَكَلْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَحْمَ حُبَارَى‏.‏

Zahdam al-Jarmi said::

"We were in the presence of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari. Among the people there was a man from the Banu Taimi’llah, ruddy as if he were a freed slave, and he did not draw near, so Abu Musa said to him: 'Draw near, for I saw Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) eat some of it,' but he said: 'I saw it eat something and I found it loathsome, so I swore that I would never taste it'!”

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ التَّمِيمِيِّ، عَنْ زَهْدَمٍ الْجَرْمِيِّ، قَالَ‏:‏ كُنَّا عِنْدَ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ، قَالَ‏:‏ فَقَدَّمَ طَعَامَهُ وَقَدَّمَ فِي طَعَامِهِ لَحْمَ دَجَاجٍ وَفِي الْقَوْمِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَيْمِ اللهِ أَحْمَرُ كَأَنَّهُ مَوْلًى، قَالَ‏:‏ فَلَمْ يَدْنُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو مُوسَى‏:‏ ادْنُ، فَإِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَكَلَ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ‏:‏ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ يَأْكُلُ شَيْئًا، فَقَذِرْتُهُ فَحَلَفْتُ أَنْ لا أَطْعَمَهُ أَبَدًا‏.‏

Ata’ ibn Abi Asid, said::

“Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘Eat oil, and anoint with it, for it is from a blessed tree!’”

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلانَ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، وَأَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالا‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عِيسَى، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ، يُقَالُ‏:‏ لَهُ عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ أَبِي أَسِيدٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏:‏ كُلُوا الزَّيْتَ، وَادَّهِنُوا بِهِ، فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ‏.‏

'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah the Exalted be well pleased with him) said::

“Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘Eat oil, and anoint with it, for it is from a blessed tree'!”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ‏:‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏:‏ كُلُوا الزَّيْتَ وَادَّهِنُوا بِهِ، فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ‏.‏

Anas ibn Malik said::

“The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to admire the gourd, so when he was brought a meal or invited to one, I would seek it out and set it in front of him, because I knew that he liked it.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، قَالا‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُعْجِبُهُ الدُّبَّاءُ فَأُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ، أَوْ دُعِيَ لَهُ فَجَعَلْتُ أَتَتَبَّعُهُ، فَأَضَعُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ لِمَا أَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ يُحِبُّهُ‏.‏
