Kitab ar-Ruh

Kitab ar-Ruh, chapters 13–17

Barzakh is the intermediate realm between this world and the next — from the moment a person dies until he is resurrected. In it the soul is questioned by the two angels, and the grave becomes either a garden from the gardens of Paradise or a pit from the pits of the Fire. The punishment and bliss of the grave are real, established by mass-transmitted reports; they fall upon the soul primarily, and upon the body in the manner Allah wills. The soul of the believer roams freely in Paradise; the soul of the disbeliever is restrained.

Key Takeaway

Barzakh is the realm of the soul between death and resurrection — the punishment and bliss of the grave are established and real.
